essence of place
Review of an Exhibition at the Burlington Art Centre
February 26 - April 10, 2005
"My paintings are always inspired by Nature. Being outdoors gives me
peace and tranquility, which I try to share with the viewer. You will not find a
human figure or structure in my escarpment paintings, but the sense of man is
always present. "The beauty in nature is the absence of man".
The Bruce Trail on the edge of the Hamilton Mountain Brow provides peace and
tranquility in the midst of the urban sprawl. I painted below West 5th, where
the tall spindly trees struggled to reach the light. I am also always fascinated
with the majestic mountain brows of Kelso and Rattlesnake Point, where the early
miners left their marks on the edge of the mountain."
